Bde Maka Ska (Limited Edition)
This year (2021) I was one of the selected artists to make a poster for the City of Minneapolis parks “posters for parks”. POSTERS for PARKS is an annual show featuring limited-edition posters created by local artists and designers inspired by Minneapolis parks. 50% of all profits from the show are donated to protect and preserve the award-winning Minneapolis park system, with the other 50% going directly to the artists.
This hand-drawn, collaged poster was inspired by a hot summer day with my friends at Bde Maka Ska. It was is a great memory to have memorized. The poster is 11x14”
Bde Maka Ska formerly known as Lake Calhoun. The Dakota community of Ḣeyata Ọtunwe existed along the banks of Bde Maka Ska. It was a place where Dakota people fished and harvested wild rice. Kate Beane knows this because her family told stories about it that were passed on through oral tradition.
UPDATE 2023
Bde Maka Ska is live and in color on Hennepin Ave at the Chambers Hotel in Down Minneapolis. See for details!
